Dual view gaming (split screen Full screen!)-Any passive 3D TV can do it now!! COD Demo

I did the below on my LG but any passive 3D TV will be able to do this. * Pop the right lense out on one and left one out on the other. I say pop because you simply need small screwdriver or nail as i used and the inner seal pops right out and just take lense out. (LG party pack) * Setup Tv ready for testing…I used black ops split screen, then choose 3D top / bottom. * swap the lenses over to the other glasses, not turned round or anything **important** to confirm youve got pair matched correctly test on the TV by holding up you’ll get a clear 2D picture. Hold up other glasses and lense and youll get a different clear picture. * I just then carefully trimmed the lenses so they’d fit in and they still fill the hole completely. * click the lense holder back around and your done. Now with LG’s technology regarding its 3D mode and way it does 4 frames in the 120hz band (this is how it got full 3d HD accreditation) you get 1080i graphics so looks fine and no major loss in detail……its worth it for the private part knowing that the person on the other screen cant see your screen. Please give thumbs up if ive helped or your impressed. Many companies will be selling this on next yrs TV’s i expect which will be more refined, but todays tv’s can do it.

@killerferret666 Thanks for the response. I was able to finally pop the lenses out and swap them, just had to use a different method. I have a couple other passive 3d glasses like the nice ones from polaroid, but the lg ones seemed to be the cheapest. Even the reald ones are overpriced online. Great vid btw, dual screen is nice since it works with my older favorite splitscreen games. Also this mod comes in useful if you want to watch a 3d movie and one of them gets headaches easily from 3d :)

@F3RGIE Yea sounds about right, after my parents came round to see the TV when I got it, they bought one lol and they’re party pack glasses are different, the black ones look even cheaper and poorer quality then the party pack lol I did see some oakley ones at a bargain price of £100 ….ill stick to my £2 ones I think!

Im sure they will see these glasses as left and right eye glasses soon.

@killerferret666 - Aha that’ll probably explain everything then. I got the party pack also, but tried using the 3D glasses from the cinema for this test. So the lenses in them are probably weaker (or just plain crap) than the party pack glasses. My party pack glasses are the same as your ones, but they differ slightly, as I am unable to remove the inside frame like you can. The ones on mine arent individually removed, i think i need to remove the whole inside of the glasses

@killerferret666 Also to add i expect proper glasses to be for sale in the near future (if not already) because Tv’s in 2012 are being shipped with this as a feature

@ElegyForTheMasses For the cost of the glasses, id buy some others off ebay if they dont have the poppable rings. no point faffing around for no reason :)

Remember Glasses for Passive do not have to be LG glasses, unlike Shutter 3D glasses which must be the make to be able to sync with the TV

@F3RGIE Yep, I have since posting this been testing getting other glasses and have found different types give varying results. I guess the lenses vary slightly in polarity.

Also which party pack did you get? I cant remember if mine were v1 or v2 shipped with the TV.

Well i just tried this again using black-ops but you can still see a faint ghost image of your other players screen (i.e image mix). To get round this i had to close my right eye. Had it set-up exactly as in the video and have two left lens’ in one pair of glasses and two right in another

I bought a pair of lg passive glasses, but they ended up being the newer model ag-f210 which no longer have the removable ring. How do I disassemble them without breaking them?

@TheSplosionman Effectively same as what ive done. I just didnt get the right eye and left eye glasses…so seperated some. lol

@TheSplosionman Na philips just packaged it as a ‘feature’ Its going to be included in the 2012 LG models, truth is the current TV’s can do it its just not labelled. On the plus side as games will be aware of this mode in the future the image wont be as stretched.

@simsik96 Any passive TV, its just a matter of swapping the lenses.

got the same tv as you man – just about to test this out

  13. 13 simsik96 said at 2:15 pm on February 15th, 2012:

Can I do it with Philips Easy 3D(Passive) glasses? Or only LG lenses can be popped out?

  14. 14 TheSplosionman said at 2:37 pm on February 15th, 2012:

Soooo i think your way is better as both can play 3d gaming =/

  15. 15 TheSplosionman said at 2:46 pm on February 15th, 2012:

The feature is only intended for gaming on the 2011 Philips models.

  16. 16 TheSplosionman said at 3:09 pm on February 15th, 2012:

You just press the Options button on the remote to select “2 player gaming” (special left-only and right-only glasses are needed). The function works great and we experienced no image-mixing. I am sure that this will be popular for console gamers and we found it particularly functional in racing and shooters. The only downside to the function is that you will only see 2D images, but still have to wear 3D glasses (to separate the pictures).

  17. 17 TheSplosionman said at 3:32 pm on February 15th, 2012:

Think this confirms it lol.A new feature from Philips is 2 Player Full-screen gaming where 3D glasses are utilized for creating two full-screen images from a split-screen multi-player game. This is a brilliant idea and it works on all gaming consoles with either side-by-side or top-over-bottom split-screen gaming.

or maybe the panasonic tx-p42gt30b but thats active so not sure about that as all i here is that they hurt ur head.

Hey killerferret666,just wondering if u know if the philips 3d tvs don’t need there glasses to be tweaked like lg becuase they say 2 Player Full Screen Gaming* only on certain models though. So i’m stuck between getting the lg 42650t or a philips which will probaberly be more expensive, can u help me decide please.

@killerferret666 Illusion or not it’s still great. Also actives cannot claim their TVs display 2160i/p either. No TV is available that has that many pixels yet. With active you see two 1080 images but never at the same time. 1080i and 1080p signals are basically the same other then the source that they come from, 1080p is just smoother, but they display the same amount of pixels hints 1080. You can’t see 1080i/p with passive in one eye. Unless they give frame rates to each individual pixel.

  21. 21 1SmartMofo said at 5:24 pm on February 15th, 2012:

@killerferret666 It’s not true, you do not and cannot see 1080i or p with passive. FlatspanelHD is not a legitimate site run by professionals, they have no credibility. You yourself said you see no difference, other then seeing a softer sharpness. The FPR filter on the screen has a pattern that blocks one eye from seeing every other pixel so each just can see 540. Now since you have 2 eyes seeing different pixels at the same time you get image fusion giving you the illusion of 1080i.

  22. 22 killerferret666 said at 6:24 pm on February 15th, 2012:

@1SmartMofo I agree I see no difference, but it is true, mainly because they broke the sharpness of the image :( play a3D movie with a big circle. Pause it. turn tru motion off, look at the jagged edges of the circle, put tru motion on low….all smooth again.

The image is not 1080i its 1080p….across both eyes, hence in technical terms they got certificate as its same as 1080P across both eyes normally. If being technical that makes active 3D 2160P as each eye gets 1080P… Clever marketing.

@strker99 FlatspanelHD is the only site confirming this update. I have a LG 47LW6500 w/Cinema 3D and I see no difference in quality after turning off my trumotion. I wouldn’t take this website (FlatspanelHD) too seriously, it’s not a credible site. Neither are any forums talking about this update. Believe me, if this was true LG would be posting this information on all mainstream credible new. CNET, PCworld, technewsworld, Engadget, CNN/tech, etc. These are credible sites.
